Towns, cities and distances
Nearest towns and the "near a city" lists use place data from GeoNames, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Distances are straight-line distances calculated by us.
Maps
US state and county outlines come from the US Census Bureau via the us-atlas project. Country outlines come from Natural Earth via the world-atlas project. Interactive map tiles are © OpenStreetMap contributors. Weather forecasts come from the US National Weather Service.
What we add
- Cleaned and title-cased names, and grouping of pools that belong to the same site.
- State and county assignment for US springs, and province for Canadian springs.
- Temperature comfort bands, nearest springs, page text built from the facts, and hand-written editor's notes for well-known springs.
Limits of the data
Temperatures can be decades old, and some springs on the 1981 federal list may no longer flow or may be on private land. Prices, hours and policies change. Always check with the operator or land manager before you travel.
